All the terminals, with the exception of Terminal F, are connected and walkable. Terminal F which can be reached by way of a shuttle service that transports travelers to and from Terminals A and C.
PHL is the largest airport in the state as well as in the entire Delaware Valley region. It is a major American Airlines international hub but also handles passengers from several other carriers such as Frontier, United, and Lufthansa Airlines.
The Philadelphia Airport first opened in 1925, when it was used as a training airfield for the Pennsylvania National Guard. The location, also known as Hog Island, officially became the “Philadelphia Municipal Airport” in 1927 when it was dedicated by Charles Lindbergh. That said, it wasn’t until 1940 that it first gained an actual terminal building. Until then, airlines were using the Camden, New Jersey airfield nearby as an alternative.
The airport has been the National Weather Service’s official weather station point for observations and records in Philadelphia since June 20, 1940.
